When to go to Colombia ?
Colombia basks in a climate of the equatorial variety. Due to its proximity to the Equator, Colombia has two seasons : summer, the dry season (verano) from June to October, and winter, the wet season (inverno) which runs from November to May. The duration of these two seasons varies however, according to the region and the altitude. There are also ‘transition months’between the two main seasons.
In the Amazonian regions, the climate is in the intertropical range – humid, with significant rainfall all throughout the year. There are also two major seasons here; dry and wet, that heavily influence the level of water, the landscape, and the plants and wildlife.
Going for a hike in Amazonia is more advisable between July and December as from January to June certain parts of the tracks can be flooded. Regarding the temperatures, Colombia also has significant differences in temperature due to its geographic complexity. The climate of Amazonia is tropical with rather stable temperatures all year round, and the climate is desert-like in the region of Guajija, while temperatures are frosty in the mountainous Paramos areas, with a drop in temperature of 42°F at approximately every 1000m.
