When to go to South Africa?

South Africa is located in the southern hemisphere, which means that the seasons are reversed with the Northern Hemisphere. The climate is rather pleasant, not too cold in winter and not too hot in summer with an average of 82°F in the Cape region in February. Stretching over 1000 km long and 1500 km wide, with the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Indian Ocean to the east, South Africa enjoys a varied climate that is mostly hot and dry. Thus in the Cape Town region, the climate is Mediterranean with temperatures ranging from 46°F in winter (May to August) with occasional snowfalls on the mountains, to 82°F in summer (September to April). The period from December to March are recommended for a trip to South Africa because the climate is sunny and dry. The sea temperature is never very hot because it rarely exceeds 68°F even in summer. The wind can sometimes be strong. In the south-east, Durban and the coastal region of the Indian Ocean, there is a subtropical climate with cool winters and very hot summers from December to January where temperatures can go up to 77°F. The sea temperature is more pleasant in this part of the country as it can reach 78°F in summer. In the Johannesburg region, winter is dry and sunny with temperatures going up to 146°F and warmer summer with maximum temperatures 78°F but with heavy rainfall. The west coast of South Africa has a desert climate. The best time to observe the animals is between May and October, the winter season in South Africa. To discover the Cape Town region, opt for the sunnier and drier months of December to April, and March and April for the Johannesburg region.
